iPhone SDKのベータ版は即リリース、正式なバージョンは6月にリリースと発表されました。
ベータ版SDKはADC（Apple Devepper Connection）メンバーよりダウンロードが可能です。（ユーザ登録が必要）

iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store (iTMS) が全米のスターバックスで使えるようになる”、との告知が昨年9月の｢iPod touch｣発表であったのを記憶している方も多いと思います。
日本での動きが全く伝わってこないのが残念ですが、米国ではSan Fransico をはじめ、New York, Seattle でもサービスが始まっています。
せっかくなので、｢Macworld Conference & Expo｣の会場から一番近いスタバで試してみました。

Safari、YouTube, iTunes Wi-Fi music storeなど、｢iPod touch｣ならでは機能はネットに繋がっていないと使えません。
自宅では無線LANルータを導入してネット接続し、外出した場合は公衆無線LANを使うことになります。公衆無線LANのサービスは料金・アクセスポイント数など様々ですが、｢iPod touch｣ユーザの皆さんはどのサービスを選んでいるのでしょうか？

高橋名人や桃太郎電鉄シリーズなどで知られるゲーム製作会社のハドソンが、｢iPod touch｣専用コンテンツサイトを開設しました。
12月12により公開されている「Do the Hudson!! (β）」というtouch専用サイトで、ゲーム、音楽、高橋名人のブログ他、のコンテンツを無料で楽しめます。

公式ページ( http://tversity.com/ )から最新のインストーラをダウンロードします。システム要件は、
- Pentium III 700 Mhz or better (Pentium 4 2.8 Ghz with support for Hyper Threading is recommended)
- 128 MB of memory or more (512 MB recommended)
- Windows XP or Windows 2000
- DirectX 9.0 or higher
- Windows Media Player 9.0 or higher
となっています。トランスコーディング(リアルタイム変換）は相当負荷がかかるので古めのPCだと厳しいと思います。

Apple Insider の記事よると、FONの創設者でCEOのマーティン・バーサフスキ氏が、先月初めApple CEO のスティーブ・ジョブズと接触、１時間半におよびジョブズと会談した模様。

Apple CEOのスティーブ・ジョブズは、人々がWi-Fiを共有し合う世界にとても興味を持っているとされ、iPhoneとビジネス的ぴったりとはまるサービス、”FON”の創設者と会った。
“… Jobs had previously read about FON, the latest venture of Argentinean new media entrepreneur Martin Varsavsky, which launched in November 2005 under mantra “WiFi for everyone.” It sells routers that have been designed to enable subscribers to share their home WiFi access in a more secure manner by splitting a traditional WiFi signal into two separate channels …”
ジョブズは、”すべての人にWi-Fiを”というスローガンのもと、アルゼンチン人起業家・マーティン・バーサフスキが2005年11月に立ち上げたFONについては既に知っていた。FONは、2つのチャンネル搭載し会員が安全にWi-Fiを共有できるように設計された無線LANルーターを販売している。

FONの躍進をみたジョブズはバーサフスキとの面会に興味を示し、ついに今月（10月）はじめクパティーノのApple本社最上階にあるジョブズのオフィスで実現した。
“… “He was very interested in FON; the meeting went on for an hour and a half,” said Varsavsky, who described Jobs as appearing “trim” and “fit” in his ripped blue jeans and black hooded sweatshirt. “He’s extremely curious. バーサフスキによると、”穴の開いたジーンズにフード付のスウェットを着ていたジョブズは小ぎれいでぴしっとした。彼はFONにとても興味を示し、会議は1時間半に及んだ。とても好奇心旺盛で、私はたくさんの質問を受けた。取調べを受けているような感じがしたが、質問はポイントをついていた。”

既に世界最大のWi-Fiネットワークを持つFONですが、Appleとの協力が実現すれば普及に弾みがつくのは間違いないでしょう。果たして、iPod touch がどこでも使えるユビキタスな世界は実現するのか？このストーリーが今後発展することを期待します。

Steve Jobsが、来年2月にiPhone+iPod touch用 3rd party SDK(ソフト開発キット）提供する、と米国アップルのサイト上で発表しました。

SDKのリリースが2月までかかる理由は、私たちは同時に2つの正反対のことをしなければならないからだ。先進的でオープンなプラットフォームを開発者に提供しつつ、iPhoneのユーザをウイルス、マルウェア、プライバシーの侵害などから守らなければならない。
… Some companies are already taking action. Nokia, for example, is not allowing any applications to be loaded onto some of their newest phones unless they have a digital signature that can be traced back to a known developer. While this makes such a phone less than “totally open,” we believe it is a step in the right direction….”
既にそれを実行に移してる企業もある。Nokia の最新の携帯電話は開発者のデジタル署名が入ったアプリ以外は搭載できないようになっている。これによってデバイスは完全にオープンではなくなるが、私たちはこれが正しい方向だとおもっている。

あと数ヶ月の辛抱が、安全で信頼性のあるプラットフォームをという形で今後何年もの間報われると信じている。

P.S. このSDKでiPod touch のアプリケーションも同様に開発できる。
iPhone+iPod touch の発売以来、3rd Party のアプリを載せることを拒んできたAppleと、セキュリティホールからクラックしそれを可能にしてきたハッカーとのイタチごっこの様相を呈していました。
ネット上では既に数多くの3rd party ネイティブアプリケーションが出回り、iPhone+iPod touch をさらに使いやすく、もっといろいろな用途に使いたい、というユーザの自然な声が高まっていたのも事実です。
ソフトウェアのアップデートによりセキュリィティホールが塞がれるとこれらのアプリは使えなくなる可能性が高く、さらにクラックへの要望が高まるという悪循環を今回の発表は断ち切ったともいえます。来年の2月以降、たくさんのアプリが登場するでしょう。iTunes で3rd Partyのアプリをダウンロードする日も遠くないかもしれませんね。
